The Mustang community is a tight-knit one, especially when it comes to helping a fellow Mustang owner in need or adding your own sweat, blood, and tears into a build knowing that all of the proceeds are going to benefit charity. Southeastern Foxbodies (SEFB) did just that, and gathered the parts necessary for the successful high-level “Save-A-Fox” build.
Last year at Mustang Week 2012, SEFB brought out a bare shell of a Fox-body sitting on a rotisserie to use for the charity build. Fast forward to this year’s Mustang Week, and the once bare Fox-body looked like it came straight off of the showroom floor painted in the modern hue of Deep Impact Blue.
SEFB went to its club forum for nominations and polls to make sure that the build was what the entire club wanted down to the color, interior, motor, and charities of choice. The motor of choice started with a 351 bored to 358 cubic-inches.
After getting the build underway, SEFB reached out to companies to see if they’d like to lend a hand with the Fox for some good causes: Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation; Victory Junction Gang Camp, and Savannah’s Drive. About 40 companies helped donate parts, money, and time to the SEFB project.
Late Model Restoration really stepped up to help tie the loose ends by donating a plethora of parts to get this bad boy up and running including: Ford Racing T5 transmission; Ford Racing aluminum driveshaft; 8.8-inch rear with 3.73 gears; SVE 5-lug conversion kit with Cobra brakes; 31-spline red axles; RAM HDX clutch; water pump; timing cover studs and bolts, and Cobra R differential.
TMI donated new interior upholstery, 2003-04 Cobra seats built specifically for Fox-body Mustangs. Also, suede inserts were added to the door panels. Trick Flow donated some 185cc CNC heads, Stage 2 camshaft, and intake manifold. Thrown on the dyno, the Fox made an impressive 341 hp and 345 lb-ft of torque.
Save-A-Fox was raffled off this year at Mustang Week and brought in over $18,000 to split between the three charities.
