In this episode of MotorTrend’s Ignition, host Carlos Lago heads to France to test out the 2014 Ford Fiesta ST two-door hatchback. Just like its big brother, the Focus ST, the 2014 Fiesta ST has a load of goodies available, but in a much smaller package. During the video, Carlos compares the two while driving the roads of France in the zippy Fiesta ST.
The Fiesta ST features a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine capable of anywhere between 170 – 197 horsepower and 200-plus lb-ft of torque. Why such a broad range? The range in horsepower is due to an overboost feature which kicks in frequently while driving. The new Fiesta ST features new wheels and tires with disc brakes all around, new springs and dampers, Recaro seats, and navigation.
There aren’t many cars that can compete with the new Fiesta ST. The cars that may be labeled as competitors include the Mini Cooper S and the Fiat 500 Abarth, but when it comes to price, there really is no competition. The Fiesta ST starts at $21,400 with an additional $1995 for options, and a destination fee of $795 bringing the grand total to $24,190.
However, the two-door Fiesta ST version won’t be available here in the United States, only a four-door hatchback will make its appearance sometime in July.
