AMP will soon be set to hit the track with a hot, new LX. This 1992 Mustang coupe was originally purchased from Bott Motorsports bottmotorsports.com in ’05 and AMP’s first intentions for the car was to use it for a shop car to tear up the Friday night scene at the local dragstrip.
But within months of purchasing the car AMP had an opportunity to run the car on the show “PINKS” for titles. “We had less than two weeks to get the car ready for the show,” said Chris Ciolek of AMP. The car came with a stock block 408 with Roush iron heads on it, and went 9.0s at 153 in testing. “Well, during the show we kicked butt, put car lengths on them, but the 250 shot of nitrous took it’s toll on the motor, and broke four of the five mains loose from the block on the 4th run of the show.”
“Make a long story short, we bought the car back and decided that we would run PSCA Wild Street with it,” added Ciolek. “We completely stripped the car down to bare bones, fabricated the remaining bars to make it legal for SFI 25.5 and filled in every hole in the engine compartment. The car is equipped with a Strange 9-inch ford rear end, with Aerospace dual caliper rears and single fronts, strange adjustable struts, QA1 rear shocks, Racecraft spindles and Weld Racing billet wheels.”
The powertrain will consist of a 383cid SBF with Scat crank, MGP aluminum rods JE pistons, AFR 225s with Jesel rockers. “We have an ATI powerglide with billet internals, along with a Neal Chance bolt together convertor.” The driveshaft is made by Strange, and is chromemoly, tig welded with solid U-joints. The single turbo will be a Precision turbo 98mm billet impeller with an HKS waste gate controlling the turbo, with a Procharger blow off valve. “We recently received the car back from the body shop with a flawless shiny black paint. We chromed all the small hardware for the parachutes, the wing struts, bolts for the wing and misc. items for the rest of the car. Currently, we are on the reassembly stages of the car, but finding time is difficult to work on the car when customers keeping us busy in the shop. Hopefully we will have it ready for the Super Street Car nationals in Las Vegas in November
