Last weekend UPR hosted the UPR Power Fest at New England Dragway.
The event was blessed with a sunny, although quite hot, two days and the turnout was excellent for the first meet at one of UPR’s favorite tracks.
The car show had 80 entrants and UPR would like to thank the New Hampshire Mustang Club for its support. The street class, similar to MM&FF’s True Street had approximately 50 entrants. The brackets were well represented and the 2005-up classes had some really exceptional performances and close competition.
The 10-inch tire class showcased several of the local 8.50 index racers and qualifying was extremely close with mid-8-second runs at 160 mph being the norm. New England racers and spectators are among the most dedicated Ford enthusiasts anywhere. It was an honor for UPR Products to maintain this mid-summer tradition of Ford racing at this beautiful track.
A special thanks goes to Joe Lombardo and his fine staff for their great customer service and facility. “I am proud to say that UPR Products has come to an agreement with New England Dragway to host this event next year and for years to come,” stated Mark Mainiero. “We learned a lot over the weekend and we’re actively seeking ideas from all our New England friends on how to have an even bigger and better event next year. Please contact markupr@yahoo.com with any suggestions or comments.
What was most incredible was how many fans came up and thanked us for "saving their event." Well, UPR owners Mark and Joe Mainiero first raced at New England Dragway in the early 1980s, and being raised in Connecticut, they felt it was their meet to save also. “We want to thank all the spectators and entrants who turned out and helped make this event a success. We'd also like to thank local racer/enthusiasts Monica and Charlie Grandll for their support and hospitality.”
UPR Products promises to do everything possible to make next year’s event an even greater success. “We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of this great tradition and to see our many new friends and customers. We'll keep you posted.”
