before a select group of more than 300 VIPs and media at Galpin Ford in Van Nuys, Calif., Lee Iacocca – father of the original Mustang – personally unveiled the new “2009∏” Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary  Edition Ford Mustang, pulling back the curtains on this stunning new version of his legendary muscle car.

Immediately following the vehicle unveiling, the number six car was auctioned off for an impressive $125,000. Auctioneer Drew Donnen began the spirited bidding at $80,000, during which, Iacocca even offered the winning bidder a private lunch with him as part of the sale. After a dramatic 15 minute back and forth between two bidders, a surprise third bidder, Steve Sularski, stepped in and upped the stakes, ultimately offering the highest bid. The number six Iacocca Silver Edition Mustang will officially be the first car delivered to a private buyer.

Since its announcement 45 days ago on Father’s Day, the Iacocca Silver 45th Anniversary Edition Ford Mustang has been capturing the imagination of muscle car enthusiasts worldwide, drawing attention from the automotive press and potential buyers.  The unveiling at Galpin was the first public's viewing of the car.

“This is a very special evening for everyone associated with creating this spectacular vehicle,” said Iacocca, who turned the auto industry on its ear when he launched the original Ford Mustang in 1964.  “Michael Leone's vision, Metalcrafters’ brilliance and Galpin Ford's commitment have really come together to turn a dream into dazzling reality.  I get the unique pleasure of having unveiled the first Mustang and now the 45th Silver Iacocca Edition model – amazing!”

Demand is so strong that Silver Edition Mustangs have already been sold for more than $100,000 and hundreds of orders and inquiries have already come in for the remaining cars, confirming the desirability and future collectability of the exceptional vehicles.   Production of the Silver Edition Mustang – to be limited to 45 vehicles – commenced at the beginning of August at the Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters in Fountain Valley, Calif.

The exclusive reception took place in Galpin's VIP Showroom and attracted more than 300 select automotive enthusiasts and more than two dozen key members of the media, and VIP’s including Olympic gold medalist Bruce Jenner, reality show star Kris Kardashian, TV and movie star Frank Stallone and comedic host Adam Carolla. In addition to Iacocca, the entire I Legacy project team, as well as executives from Galpin, were on hand, including Michael Leone, designer and partner of I Legacy; Bert Boeckmann, President of Galpin Motors; George Gaffoglio, CEO of Gaffoglio Family Metalcrafters, the coach builder that is building the cars and I Legacy partner Denice Halicki.

In addition to the number six vehicle, two other Iacocca Silver Edition Mustangs – the number 10 car and the prototype -- were on display at the event. Reliable Carriers, the leading company specializing in automotive transport throughout the United States and Canada, safely brought all three vehicles to the event and donated home delivery of the auctioned car to the new owner.
