Recently some of the staff members of MM&FF, myself included, took a trip to Birmingham, Alabama to cover the 45th Anniversary celebration of the Mustang. The show was great and I applaud all the people who came out to show their rides.
Although the show was packed, and there a bunch a great customized Mustangs, I am slightly concerned with the lack of originality in the majority of the customized late-models on hand. Now I understand that most people don’t want a car they are afraid to drive because of the amount of work, time, and money they have invested, but I lost count of how many cars we saw with billet interior accents, chrome Bullitt knock-offs, and window tint. Now please don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for the younger guys who work a second job and save every penny to add something new to their ride, hell that was me growing up! But with the sheer amount of different parts available from the aftermarket we shouldn’t walk a show like the 45th and feel like we keep seeing the same car over and over.
Maybe I’m wrong and the trend is that strong. And I’m not saying it doesn’t look good, cause frankly I like it! All I’m saying is what happened to the days when everyone wanted to stand out? I guess the chrome Bullitt wheels are the Draglites of this generation.
