After winning the NHRA Pomona event a few weeks ago, the Cobra Jet entries continue to impress racers and fans alike. Stock Eliminator took to the lanes today for its first qualifying round at the second stop on the NHRA national event tour. This outing, Gary Stinnett produced a jaw-dropping 9.81 qualifying run. While it was the quickest and fastest run of the day in Stock Eliminator, the index-based qualifying rules placed him fifth on the ladder. The 9.81 is the second quickest run in the history of the historic NHRA category. The overall quickest run ever in Stock Eliminator is currently 9.71, a number that most Cobra Jet competitors are gunning for.
As a side note, my friends the Ficacci family own the 9.71 run with Mr. Ficacci's '68 Camaro; a car that he has raced for nearly forty years. It will be fun to see him line up against some of the Cobra Jet entries in Division 1.
