The six-second barrier has gone down in Outlaw Drag Radial, a feat that was expected to happen eventually. In the past year or so, the record in Outlaw Drag Radial moved from the 7.30s down to 6.90s. This past weekend, David Hance drove his sinister black '93 LX to a best of 6.93 at a mere 207 mph. He cited the tires spinning on the top-end and he lifted. Hance had gone 7.04 at 219 mph and 7.05 at 221 mph, before softening the launch that helped him run the 6.93. Hance was testing for the U.S. Street Nationals at Bradenton Motorsport Park.
Hance feels his coupe is capable of going 6.80s as he whittles away at the starting line tune up and figures a way to get the giant Mickey Thompson drag radials to stay glued on the top-end. It could be more of an aerodynamic package consider the car rolls on stock suspension and is very sedate looking for its speeds.
If there is one downside to Hance's run it is that he accomplished the task with a big block Chevy under the hood. The Chevy engine checks in at 622ci and is pumped up by two Precision 91mm turbochargers. The engine is capable of well in excess of 2,000 horsepower and some peg the capabilities at 2,700hp at full boost.
Ford fans need not worry, Kevin Fiscus is a shining bright light in the Outlaw Drag Radial world and he is looking to run with Hance and anyone else who steps up. Fiscus runs a Pro Line-built 454ci twin turbo engine. It is based on a small-block package and is 100% Ford. The heads are from CFE and according to Pro Line's Steve Petty, the engine is probably the best small block the turbo shop has ever produced.
Fiscus is knocking on the 6-door with a best run of 7.05 at 207 mph at a South Georgia Motorsport Park test session.
