It is all over the Internet, Toyota's TRD division is boasting claims of a 500-horsepower Tundra that runs in the 13s. The truck is equipped with a TRD supercharger system, amongst other components. Could this be a serious contender to the Gen 2 Lightning's throne? Dodge took its best shot and failed with its SRT10 truck. Despite Toyota's growing dominance in the car market, it seems to be a few years behind the US automakers in the truck division. It took the company several tries to build a pick-up that could compete with F-150. The current model is great but the Ford units still outsell them by a wide margin. Let's see if TRD's performance efforts can chase down the Lightnings.
It is interesting to see a 500-horse truck head to the market during these interesting times in the pick-up segment. If the fuel didn't slow down sales, the sagging economy did. The market looks to be shifting back to a work-only mentality. We will see how the TRD Tundra fairs, if the company releases it.
