Aeromotive's Steve Matusek qualified number one today at the prestigious and highly competitive NHRA Mac Tools US Nationals. He runs one bad little '07 Shelby GT500 that is features a tube chassis, carbon fiber body, and a high tech 5.4-liter modular engine. Matusek has run his car in NMCA and NHRA action all year along and he normally runs 6.40s at will. But since Comp Eliminator is an index type of format, you get penalized for going too far under your index.
Right now, Matusek sits on the pole through one round of qualifying with a 6.70, which is 0.66 seconds under his 7.37 index. We expect him to run a bit quicker as the weekend progresses. You can catch a full feature on Matusek's record holding ride in the February 2008 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine.
The NHRA US Nationals is the longest running NHRA national event and the most prestigious drag race in the world.
