Dump the family vacation and do one of these, you'll have more fun.

There are so many great events throughout the year that it can get overwhelming. In my opinion, here are the Top 5 events for car guys either as a participant or spectator.

In no particular order-

1. Bonneville Salt Flats Speed Week: this year is the 60th running of Speed Week at Bonneville. Salt conditions are said to be the best in the history of the festivities. World land speed records are set here and ingenuity and creativity runs wild.

2. Woodward Dream Cruise: While not a racing event (we are sure there are some street races late night), it is the world's largest cruise. Miles and miles of hot rods and people having fun. Those who attend, proclaim it is a car-lover's dream because of the volume of hot rods is outrageous.

3. Baja 1000: If you are not familiar with off-road racing, get familiar with it. In my opinion, off-road racing is pure intense and pure hot rodding. The racing and action is wild. Baja 1000 is the epitome of off-road racing.

4. NHRA U.S. Nationals at Indy: The oldest NHRA event and the one with the most history. Iconic names and legendary runs have been made at Indy. This year, the NHRA finally made the race more important by making it the final leg in the first segment of the Countdown to the Championship. Teams will be fighting hard to get the finals spots in the Top 10, in order to move on to next round and move a step closer to a NHRA championship title.

5. Some sort of Street Legal Shootout: I didn't want to point out a particular event, there are many great ones throughout the year. On the top of the list would be the Orlando World Street Nationals held in October. It is an insane shootout that brings out some wild cars. Another suggestion would be the NMRA-NMCA Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing at Joliet. Think of it as a two-for-one ticket to great racing and then a team challenge between the two organizations. One more suggestion, Street Car Super Nationals in Las Vegas. It is a newer event but every year it gets bigger and bigger.
