This past winter, Nitto Tires released the world's first 20-inch drag radials with its 555R in two 20-inch sizes. We received a set of them and decided to throw 'em on Billy and Bryan Sorby's sweet '06 Saleen Mustang. The Sorby brothers run a Hellion turbo kit and the car makes 561 rwhp, making it a definite candidate for a set of sticky DOT tires.
"These tires are so much better on the street compared the Pirelli ones that came on the car," commented Billy. He went on to say, "I used to be able to leave two strips of rubber if I would punch it in third gear at around 60 mph. Now, with the Nitto 555R tires on the back it just hooks and goes." Those were Billy's comments about the tires about an hour after he put them on the stock Saleen 20x10 wheels.
We chose the 305/35-20 tires, which are slightly taller than 28-inches and carry a massive 12-inch width. The tires fit perfectly on the wheels and look great sitting in the massive S197 rear quarters.
Keep an eye on this website and the magazine for a track evaluation on the tires.
