The Pontiac G8 fires the first shot in the Source Interlink Media New Jersey office rivalry.
No sooner did I post a blog about a little office rivalry, my opponent fired the first shot in what is sure to be a bloody war. To recap, a nameless person in the New Jersey office has been firing his mouth off from the moment he picked up a Pontiac G8. The car is real nice and if I were shopping for a sedan, the G8 would be at the top of my list. It is affordable and runs real hard with its L76 engine. I am not going to trade in my GT for one, but it is a nice ride. Kudos to Pontiac for bringing it to the U.S. That car is way cooler and better than the failed late model GTO.
Back to the rivalry. The anonymous G8 owner beat up on Editor Smitty's Mustang GT, as if that is a hard thing to do since it is his wife's car! But that gave him confidence and now he is calling me out in a match race that involves superchargers. He has a ProCharger, while my 2007 will soon be pumped up with a Ford Racing twin-screw blower by Whipple.
Despite my warnings to him, the young pup didn't listen and continued to talk trash. He went down to Cartek last week to have one of the first ProCharger G8 kits installed on his car. You can read all of the intimate details in an upcoming issue of GM High Tech Performance magazine. Long story short, his car made 420 rear wheel horsepower with a super-conservative tune up. In fact, ProCharger and its tuner are looking to jump that by 40-50 more horsepower easily and keep it 50-state emissions legal. The kit is still in its R&D phase.
So the first shot has been fired, to counter him I have started unpacking the Whipple blower and gathering a few key parts to help push my ride to more power than his G8 and quicker times on the drag strip. It is only a matter of time before I get it on the car now. Stay tuned as this office conflict escalates to all-out war.
