S197 Mustangs are getting quicker every week.

Modular Depot built a custom single turbo setup for Vinny Barber's 2005 Mustang.

It seems like yesterday that Justin Burcham eclipsed the 10-second barrier for the first time with his S197 Mustang. It has been three years since he did the deed and now that car ran the first 8-second run for a Three-Valve powered '05-up Mustang. Burcham has pushed the envelope and there seems to be a couple of Mustangs that are going after him.

A few weeks ago, we saw Modular Depot's latest build up that consists of a built Three-Valve modular engine that is pumped up by a Precision 88mm turbocharger. The company posted a video on a variety of message boards of the car's initial start up. It sounds sick and we cannot wait to get our lenses focused on Vinnie Barber's white Steeda S197. According to the shop's head honcho, Ken Bjonnes, it will run in the 8s and do so on a pair of drag radials! The car has already made 716 rear wheel horsepower at just 14 psi of boost. Bjonnes said they are turning up the boost to 20-plus psi later this week . Checkout more of this wild street machine at www.modulardepot.com

Another outstanding car is one from ST Motorsports from San Bernardino, CA. These guys have their 2005 Mustang GT up and running. According to MM&FF's records, we believe this to be the second quickest Three-Valve combination in existence. The crew just ran a sick 9.50 at 142 mph at Famoso Raceway in California. The car features a built bottom-end, obviously, as well as ported heads and cams. The blower of choice is a Kenne Bell 2.8H that according to reports floating around the net, throws in 24 psi of boost to the potent mod motor.

We wish we could get these three guys to meet at Englishtown this Fall and have the ultimate Three-Valve Shootout to see who is the baddest. But given ST Motorsport's West Coast location, I doubt that would happen. The Three-Valve is gaining in popularity and enthusiasts are pushing it to the edge.
