It has become one of the must-attend events of the year, for the fourth time the Pro Media Company (parent to NMRA and NMCA racing series) have combined the two leading street legal drag racing events, NMRA and NMCA, for a wild weekend of drag racing and fun. The past three years the action has been unbelievable. Never before has any promoter combined the wild Mustang heads up drag racing scene with the knockdown brawling street legal segment. I cannot praise the idea enough, this event packs a serious amount of action and fun. In years past, I remember sitting on the starting line for hours photographing just one round of qualifying. There are that many cars.
Last year, Jack Roush was the named the Grand Marshall of the event. It was an off-weekend for the NASCAR series so he headed over to Joliet to hang out and watch his daughter and friends compete in the NMRA segment of the event.
This year, Vic Edelbrock has been named the Grand Marshall of the NMRA/NMCA Super Bowl. His parts are on many of the cars that compete at the Super Bowl of Street Legal Drag Racing and he wanted to check it out firsthand.
The event kicks off on July 17, 2008 and qualifying starts on Friday, July 18, with round one of eliminations on Saturday afternoon. Sunday will feature the rest of eliminations and the special Super Bowl Runoff where NMRA winners take on the NMCA class winners. The winner of each class will receive bonus money and the prestigious Nitto Tires Diamond Tree champion ring.
