With the FFW holding their latest event at Virginia Motorsports Park in Dinwiddie, Virginia, I grabbed the keys to our latest press car, a brand new Focus coupe, loaded it up with everything I would need to cover the event for the weekend, and set off on my trip south of the Mason-Dixon line. Having been to this track before with my NHRA Super Comp dragster and my brother's NHRA Super Street Thunderbird for the Lucas Oil divisional race (where he was a runner-up I might add!), I knew that it should take 6 hours with a truck and trailer. This meant I could get there in 5 1/2 hours or less blasting along in the Focus. Yeah right!
After doubling that amount, I finally pulled into my hotel a bit up the road after spending 10 hours on the highway. So much for getting here early, getting a lay of the land, and having a few choice cold beverages. I hit every single traffic jam on the way down. The only good thing I saw was one smokin' convertible S197 that sounded as good as it looked. At least for a whiel I was able to turn off the radio and listen to the music emanating from the Pony's tailpipes.
Well, time for some shut eye. Check back this weekend for some updates from the event.
Now if only I could make trips like this in a Bigfoot monster truck...
