We all have to use public roads. Here's a tip that, if everyone abides by, should make the drive a little easier.
It's a basic idea that is law in many places. SLOWER TRAFFIC KEEP RIGHT. That's it. Realize that no matter how fast you are driving, there will always, and I mean always, be someone faster on the highway than you. Make it a habit. Pass and then move over.
If you're driving on the Autobahn in Germany and you try to be a leftlane bandit, you're likely to get rear ended by a car doing a 150mph or more. That's why they have great lane ettiquette and keep to the right there. Think of the Germans when you're out on the road, and just move over.
There's nothing more aggravating than three cars running three wide on the interstate, all of which are content and/or oblivious to what's going around them. This is the stuff that traffic jams are made of, and once the brake lights start, it causes a chain reaction miles behind you. Pay attention to your surroundings, and just move over.
Don't get mad when someone tailgates you. You're wasting your own time and theirs if you purposely hold them up. And the idea is for us all to get home in a timely manner, right? Keep in mind that the tailgater could possibly have an urgent situation that they need to attend to, or maybe they are just driving much faster than you are comfortable with. Don't get mad, and don't try to police the highway, just move over.
If someone is trying to pass you on the right, it means you're holding up traffic to the left. Don't get mad and speed up. You're only going to make the situation worse for eveyone on the highway around you. He'll have to hit his brakes, and then everyone behind him will see his car dive forward hard under braking and see his brake lights. Then panic causes other drivers behind you and him to hit their brakes, and then you have a chain reaction of people slowing down. Check your mirrors frequently, and just move over.
For those of us that must endure the chore of commuting, a few simple things can make a big difference in the way traffic flows. We all want to get where we are going. Set aside your ownership of the road--which by the way you don't own--and just MOVE OVER.
