Over the years MM&FF has been known for building some crazy project vehicles. There was Project White Trash, Project 10-second Granada and Frightning, to name a few.
But what we’re considering next may just take the cake. How about a ’79 Fairmont called The Wagonator. Its not just any ’79 Fairmont, but a woody-sided wagon, bench seats and all. This madness came about when Ford Racing Performance Parts’ Jesse Kershaw purchased this very Fairmont on ebay for the sum of $500. The car was based in New Jersey so we picked it up and stored it for him for a few weeks. The plan, at least for now, is to dump in a 4.6 DOHC Terminator engine, back it with an automatic, pop in an 8.8 and go hunting. Believe it or not, Kershaw drove the high-mileage Ford from New Jersey to his home in Detroit—by himself and with only hand tools for minor repairs. He stated that the front end wobbled above 65 mph, and that every once in a while the transmission would stick in Second gear, but otherwise it ran like a real cream puff. Three Red Bulls, a case of water and four Starbucks coffee drinks and he was home free. So I ask, are we nuts? Is Kershaw nuts? We want to know. The Fairmont is certainly a freaky Fox, but it shares many mechanical traits with its Mustang cousin so it should be a breeze to build. They are light, and this one is totally unassuming, making it very stealthy. Should this be the next MM&FF project car? If you think so drop me a line at evan.smith@sourceinterlink.com.
