Updating a Tech Story with new results

Back in the February 2008 issue of Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, we featured a story about a stroker engine with stock heads, stock cams, and a Hellion turbo kit. It featured a Turbonetics 76mm turbocharger and kicked out 731 rwhp and 666 rwtq. The bottom end was simple, a steel crank (stock stroke), steel rods, and low-compression pistons (8.5:1). The heads were untouched and the cams re-used. J Kuntz and Company is responsible for building the engine.

John Urist and the Hellion crew wanted to show how far you could push the stock induction system, and also show that you can make up the power by running more boost instead of better flowing heads and cams- saving you money.

The Hellion crew cruised the streets daily in the '05 Mustang GT as well as showing it off at many NMRA events. They soon grew bored with the 731 rwhp and wanted to step things up a bit more.  Working on a hunch,  Urist felt there was more to be had out of the combination.  He took the Stang to Motiva Speed in Albuquerque, NM. There the staff re-tuned the car and got a little more aggressive, our test vehicle produced a best of 798 rwhp and 833 rwtq. This was done with the identical combination that we featured, save for one more psi of boost and a more aggressive computer tune.
