When I was growing up, anytime I wanted to find something out the first thing I would do would pose a particular question to one of my parents, whether it was “Why is the sky blue?” to “How did Ford and Chevy become arch-rivals?”. More often than not, either my Mom or Dad would drive me to the library, where I would promptly pick up all the books I could on the related subject. After a few days of reading said books, I not only had the answer to my question, but a broader knowledge base on the subject.
That’s why every time I get a book or a press release in about another how-to book that CarTech books is releasing, I usually pay real close attention to it. I have to face the fact that when it comes to technical or mechanical knowledge, I have to ask a whole lot more questions than some of my peers. I am getting better, but like they say, knowledge is power, so the more knowledge I can arm myself with, the better I can be in a heated technical battle of wits.
The latest book from CarTech is How To Build And Modify High-Performance manual Transmissions by Paul Cangialosi. The book breaks down the disassembly, inspection, modification and/or upgrade, and the subsequent rebuilding process of a manual transmission. Featuring more than 400 photos, charts, and illustrations strewn about the 128 pages, Cangialosi shows you how to rebuild and modify trannys such as the Borg Warner T10 and Super T10, as well as the Tremec T5. While I have yet to receive my copy, I am sure that by the time I get done reading it (mostly while trying to avoid doing work around the house!) I will be much better versed in the inner workings of the manual transmission.
The book will be available in June, so I know you all will be chomping at the bit like I will be to get your hands on one. You can grab your copy from CarTech by calling 800/551-4754, or by booting up the Web browser on your computer and going to www.cartechbooks.com.
Now if only EVERYTHING came with a detailed, how-to book…
