Here it is, the last day of January, and the juices are flowing. In the past week, the NHRA professional racers have made lap after lap at both of their test sessions. Of more interest to us here at Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, though, was the fact that yesterday, we sat down to go over this years travel schedule. It was at that point in time that I realized that the Spring Break Shootout and the coveted Hooter’s Party are a month away. Last year was my first trip down to the Spring Break Shootout and the Hooter’s Party, and to say it was wild would be an understatement. I had heard the stories from the rest of the MM&FF crew about years past, so when I stepped off of the plane in Orlando, I had a good idea of what to expect. Of course, the Hooter’s Party was a blast with its burnout contest. I think we are still laughing about the guy who did a snow angel in the rubber residue. I think we were all a bit surprised at the low number of cars that came out to run in our SBSO class, however. Evan and the rest of the crew sat down and revised the rules for this years running, so hopefully that will entice all of you to participate this year. We will be there with cameras in hand...and a few beers as well. On a personal note, with opening day getting closer by the second, I realized that I have yet to get out in the trailer and get my race car ready for the upcoming season. With all of the races I cover for the magazine, it is hard to get the car ready and have some fun myself, but I try to get out every chance I get. Knowing that racing season is so close only made me chomp at the bit even more to get the car ready to rock and roll. If I only had more than 24 hours in the day. I am positive it will get done, though I am sure my neighbors don’t want to have to deal with me starting the at 1:30 in the morning like my Dad and I did with my old Jr. Dragster back when I was 14. We still get comments about that. If they only knew we won the race the next day! Hopefully you are all in much better shape than I am, and have your Mustang or fast Ford either ready or a heck of a lot closer to being ready than my little hot rod is. Get that tune perfected, that nitrous, blower, or turbo combo dialed in, and cinch the belts on that 5-point harness down tight. It’s going to be one heck of a ride. Now if I could only find the time to get my car ready…
